As I write, only three days have passed since the April whirlwind of events we call the Parade of Homes wrapped up, and the preliminary reports are looking good. This year, the whirlwind description seems to be more accurate than ever before. Friday night’s Barbeque and Awards presentation was almost washed out due to wild central Texas weather. With tornado sirens blaring, hail, rain and howling winds, those of us who arrived early were wondering whether anyone would bother to show up. But in true TABA style, the faithful slowly trickled in for an evening of good food, fellowship, entertainment, and recognition of their efforts. Congratulations to all the winners! The 2008 Parade will be remembered for its quantity and quality. With 19 homes there truly was something for everyone. This year also featured more luxury homes than usual. The TABA builders really pulled out all the stops in this category. The judges were impressed with the features and quality of construction and the parade visitors I spoke to seemed to be enjoying every minute. Events of this magnitude don’t just happen, and I’d like to say thank you to Parade Chairman Justin Scott and all of his committee members for a job well done. Executive Officer Cheryl Copeland and the committee started working on the Parade details months ago and the results of all their hard work were on display for two full weekends. The Parade and the barbeque went off without a hitch. Thanks again Cheryl, Justin and committee members! May is upon us and that can only mean one thing…golf tournament time. Make sure you get your team signed up, breakout the shorts, dust off the clubs and join us at Sammons on Friday, May 16th for a great time and lots of prizes. I’ll see you there but I promise I won’t get near a golf club! |
